Microsoft has a passion for helping the communities in which their employees live and work and they support this passion in a variety of ways. From their annual Giving Campaign to matching employee’s gifts of time and money, Microsoft employees aim to make a difference in their communities every day. In 2023, Microsoft enhanced their Employee Giving Program to make a bigger impact: they increased the matching funds available to each employee to $15,000 (up from $12,000 in previous years), and new Microsoft employees receive $50 to make a donation to their nonprofit of choice.
Special thanks to our very first Microsoft volunteer, Jonathan Tennis, for his tireless support of the Our Kids Read mission. He has helped the organization recruit over 20 Microsoft employee Reading Buddies, volunteers to read remotely with Our Kids Read K-5th graders. Over the last 18 months the volunteer hours spent by these volunteers has equated to over $5,000 in cash gifts from Microsoft to Our Kids Read (Microsoft donates $25 per hour to OKR for every hour a Microsoft employee volunteers).

Donate one or more books for children to take home with them during this event. Here is a sample of the diverse books that we will be bringing to this event:
OKR is a 100% volunteer organization but we do pay contract musicians, storytellers and part-time staff. Please donate to support the cost of bring the best event possible to the students we serve.
We always need volunteers, even remote ones. If you have the time, we can put you to work! We leverage volunteers across the country to help with everything from copy editing material that will be printed for the event to helping to drum up support for the virtual book drive. Volunteers are also welcome for day-of in-person volunteering. Because we conduct criminal background checks and conduct pre-event training, please reach out at least four (4) weeks prior to the event if you’d like to volunteer in-person.
