Little Free Libraries

At Our Kids Read, we believe that every child deserves easy access to books that inspire, reflect their experiences, and open doors to new perspectives. In 2025, Our Kids Read proudly partnered with Little Free Library as part of the inaugural Read in Color™ Cohort—a national initiative dedicated to increasing access to books by and about people of color and other historically underrepresented communities. Through this partnership, we are helping ensure that children and families can discover diverse stories that celebrate different cultures, identities, and lived experiences while fostering a lifelong love of reading.

Today, Our Kids Read maintains four Little Free Libraries across the state of Maryland, with plans to install an additional 12 libraries over the next 12 months. Each library is stocked with free, high-quality children’s books that are available to anyone in the community—encouraging children to “Take a Book, Share a Book, Read a Book.” By placing books where families already gather, we are breaking down barriers to literacy and making reading more accessible for every child.

As Our Kids Read continues to expand our Little Free Library network throughout Maryland, we remain committed to creating neighborhoods where books are abundant, literacy is celebrated, and every child has the opportunity to discover the transformative power of reading. Through our partnership with Little Free Library and the Read in Color™ initiative, we are helping build stronger readers—and stronger communities—one book at a time.
